Katherine Ultra Challenge

The 100 kilometre, Katherine Ultra Challenge tests your physical and mental endurance while taking you through some of the region’s most stunning natural environment. Held in the stunning Nitmiluk Katherine National Park in June, the course combines six different sports.

Competitors kick off with a 3km swim through Katherine Gorge, then run cross country for 10km. Next is a 25km mountain bike ride, followed by an 8km road run which passes the Katherine Thermal Springs. Jumping in canoes, participants paddle through billabongs and past wallabies for 17km and finish up with a gruelling 37km on-road bike ride. Whether you join in or just watch, the experience is enthralling.

The effort merits a slow, relaxing boat cruise through Katherine Gorge with Nitmiluk Tours. Guides will point out Aboriginal rock art painted on the red walls thousand of years ago, and get you acquainted with the local Jawoyn culture. It’s magic.
