Heritage Week
Duration: 4 Days
It's hard to imagine a world without the creature comforts we have today. But deep in the Territory's Red Centre, plenty of evidence remains to show us what life was like in Alice Springs a century ago. During the region's fascinating Heritage Festival (10-19th April), witness the changes that came with the passing of time.
Explore the town's many heritage buildings, including the town’s oldest surviving building, the town gaol. Listen as guides tell you stories about the characters who colonised the area and watch original footage from the 1930s, 1940s and 50s, showing how these isolated inhabitants coped. Look at artefacts from John McDouall Stuart’s first expedition through central Australia, 150 years ago, and discover how the Overland Telegraph Line was constructed.
