Dry river boat race draws visitors to the Red Centre

Media Release - August 08, 2008

Adventures will begin this month in Australia’s spectacular Red Centre when Alice Springs hosts the extraordinary Henley-On-Todd dry river regatta that runs through the warm, red heart of Australia.

On Saturday August 30, spectators will gather to laugh and cheer as local and international participants race in bottomless "eights", "oxford tubs", "bath tubs" and yachts through the deep coarse sand of the dry Todd River.

The Henley-On-Todd regatta dates back to 1962 and is today one of the world's most unique sporting events.

The boats race side-by-side in the pursuit of glory, while vendors host food and variety stalls to entertain the crowds. The event includes an extravagant Grand Parade, which is a highlight not to be missed.

If participating in this iconic Northern Territory event appeals to your inner-adventurer, entry is open to all, but travellers must be quick to book for this memorable event in Australia’s Red Centre.
